“Proud to officially be a Blue Devil again!”
— Jeannette McCann, Principal
Dear Danville students and families,
It’s hard to believe that we are more than halfway through the 2022-2023 school year. Hopefully, it will not be long until the snowy days and bare trees will be replaced by sunshine and flowers. My name is Jeannette McCann and I will be the principal at the Jr/Sr High building for grades 7-12 in the 2023-2024 school year, which will be the start of my 29th year in education. Even though I will not officially be starting until August 1st, I have been given the opportunity to unofficially begin this new role at the end of this current school year.
I have had the privilege of spending time in the Jr/Sr high building over the past few months getting to know students, staff, and the basic operations of the building. I am beyond impressed with how things are run in this district. The staff in the Jr/Sr high building is to be commended for how they have stepped up and taken on additional roles when school resumed in January, while still maintaining their normal roles in the care of students’ needs and the day-to-day tasks that everyone in the building faces. The entire staff continues to keep things running smoothly in the building.
My husband and I have been able to attend several events over the past two months involving junior high and high school students. Up to this point, we have attended basketball games, parent presentations, and a band concert. We are looking forward to attending the spring musical, future concerts, the vocational agriculture banquet, spring sporting events, and everything that involves the students of Danville.
On a personal note, it feels very surreal to not only be back in the district but to physically be back in the buildings where my education began. I have told my family that nothing has changed, yet everything has changed. Nothing has changed, in the sense that staff still hold students to the same high expectations as they did 30-plus years ago. The same feeling of “family” is still immediately present when you walk into all of the buildings. Everything has changed in terms of the layout of the rooms in the Jr/Sr high building, the technological advancements that have been made, and the opportunities for students exceeding what other schools in our area currently offer.
I want to thank all of you who have welcomed me home with open arms. The dedication and commitment that you have for the students, this community, and the future of the Danville Local School district is just one reason why I am excited to work with and to work for all of you. If I have not met you yet, please come up and introduce yourself if you see me out at an event or out in the community. I look forward to working with all of you as we continue to provide our students with a great education and a skill set to make them successful in their next step after graduation, whatever that may be.
Proud to officially be a Blue Devil again!
Sincerely,
Jeannette McCann
