To address academic needs and learning gaps due to the interruption in instruction caused by the pandemic, Danville Local Schools will be hiring 3 additional teachers for the next two school years. Two “Reading Specialists” will be placed in the elementary for K- 2nd grade and 4th-6th grade. There will be an additional 3rd-grade teacher hired to reduce class size at that grade level. This will allow for all students to work in smaller groups and for the teachers to better focus on both the academic and social-emotional needs of the students.
For grades 7-12, summer school will be offered with a focus on Math and English Language Arts. The curriculum and instruction will be mastery-focused, taking the seat hours and work accomplished and augmenting it to get mastery of the standards left un-mastered by remote learning or poor performance.
The district will be using over $250,000 in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER) to employ the elementary teachers for the next 2 years and provide summer instruction to students in grades 7-12.
