The Board of Education would like to invite all Danville Local School District residents to a Town Hall meeting on May 15, 2023, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to share their thoughts in person about the future of the 1944 Intermediate building that faces Market Street. The meeting will take place in the high school auditorium and last no longer than one hour. There is a regularly scheduled board meeting after the Town Hall meeting at 6:00.
The building has not housed district students since the construction of the K-6 building in 2002. In the fall, the district will have no further use for the structure due to administrative offices moving to a site near the K-6 building. Although the building is of no use to the district, the footprint and proximity of the property to the Junior High/High School are still valuable for the safety and security of the students and staff. Ultimately, the building would be demolished and a modern parking area would be constructed for direct access to the building. There also has been a proposal from a local organization (Heritage Association) to lease the building to provide a variety of activities potentially. The BOE would appreciate all stakeholders attending the meeting to learn more and share their thoughts on the site and its use.
