“Proud to officially be a Blue Devil again!”
— Jeannette McCann, Principal

Dear Danville Students and Families,

It does not seem possible that the start of the 2023-2024 school year is quickly approaching. I hope that you and your families had some time to relax and enjoy some fun and memorable summer activities. Fall is by far my favorite time of year as the leaves change into beautiful colors in our area, the smell of harvest is in the air, the sounds of Friday night lights fill the stadium and students and staff fill the hallways.   My name is Jeannette McCann and I am eager to officially begin as the new principal for grades 7-12 in the Danville Local School District.  After spending some time in the district the past few months, I am excited to work with a fantastic team of educators, support staff, students, and this community for the upcoming school year. I was able to meet many of you this spring at school and community events and I want to thank you for the warm wishes and welcomes that I received in coming “home”.  I am looking forward to meeting many more of you throughout the upcoming school year.

As many of you already know, I grew up in Danville on a turkey farm just outside of town, where my parents still reside. I am a 1990 graduate of Danville High School, which is something I still take pride in saying to anyone who asks where I am from.  I attended Ashland University where I received my Bachelor of Science in education and minored in physics, chemistry, and earth science.  I later obtained my Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.  My husband Scott and I reside near the farm in Mount Vernon where he grew up and continues to farm.  We have two grown children that we are very proud of.  Our son Tyler is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where he obtained a business and entrepreneurship degree. He and his wife Katelyn currently reside in Knox County with their dogs Knox and Bailey. They can often be found at Round Hill Dairy or Riverside Dairy, which he co-owns. Tyler also farms with Scott and sells farm equipment at our local ag equipment dealership. Our daughter Taylor is a graduate of Miami University and she is using her strategic communication and community nutrition degree to begin her career in marketing. She recently moved home from Colorado and is in the process of determining where in the Carolinas she wants to take up residency.

The 2023-2024 school year will begin my 29th year in education. The past 28 years have been spent in the 7-12 classroom teaching all areas of science from AP physics to chemistry. I also served in many leadership roles in the building and throughout the district.  I have loved my time in the classroom, but I am at a point in my life where a new challenge and a change of scenery are necessary to be able to grow as an educator. I have always prided myself on building relationships in the classroom as the critical factor in getting students to learn. I hope to continue that relationship-building with the students in this district, the staff at Danville, parents, and community members.

I am a firm believer that it takes a community to help a child succeed. For this reason alone, I am excited to form a partnership with all the stakeholders in your child’s time while in the junior/senior high building. I am a strong advocate for supporting your child’s future goals, whatever they may be. There are so many opportunities currently available for our young people, which may involve enlistment in one of our military branches, employment in a field of interest, enrollment in courses at Danville and beyond our walls, or using skills and talents to become an entrepreneur. Whatever your student’s path, I can assure you that our team and myself will continue to celebrate and support them along the way.

There will be a lot of new faces in the building this fall and exciting things are happening in our district. I look forward to working with all of you this school year. I know I’ve said it before and I’ll say it time and time again, I’m proud to be a Blue Devil once again!

Sincerely,

Jeannette McCann
