District Profile
Located on U.S. 62, the village has a population of over 1,100 residents with homegrown pride and down-home values. Small stores to shop and places to eat are plentiful in the community. The Village of Danville is known as āThe Gateway to Amish Countryā. We are the trailhead/terminus for both the Kokosing Gap Trail and the Mohican Valley Trail that extends to the Bridge of Dreams in Brinkhaven. The Mohican Valley Trail runs from Danville to Holmes County, while the Kokosing Gap Trail runs from Danville to Mount Vernon. Several colleges including Kenyon, Mount Vernon Nazarene, OSU branches, Central Ohio Technical College, and the North Central Technical College serve the area.
The faculty, staff, students, and community are devoted to academic excellence and the cultivation of individual strengths and talents in a supportive environment where individual differences and respect for the rights of others guide school and community behavior. Danville is a very close-knit community that values quality education and extracurricular activities. The district consists of 110 square miles, located in eastern Knox County as well as in part of Holmes County. Danville is 57 miles northeast of Columbus. Education is recognized as the most valuable resource for building a bridge in helping Danvilleās 650 students become successful on the college campus and in the world of work.
Danville attracts many students from neighboring school districts, as for the 2023/24 school year, over 100 students open enrolled in Danville. The high school offers five Honors courses and six CCP classes on campus. Students can also take Family/Consumer Science, Agriculture Education, Business, and Computer Graphics, and Robotics courses to broaden their education. The district is committed to incorporating technology into daily instruction. Most classrooms utilize interactive whiteboards for instruction and Chromebooks are readily available for student use on a 1-to-1 basis. The district utilizes Google for daily instruction and communication. The district works cooperatively with the Knox County Career Center to provide vocational and technical training. The district has a total of 98 employees, including 59 Licensed, 34 Classified, and 5 Administrators.
Many of our students participate in co-curricular activities including Mock Trial, drama, concert band, jazz band, pep band, marching band, drama, FCCLA, FFA, and Robotics. The Elementary Robotics team were state Champions in 2023, which qualified them for the world competition in Texas. The district is also well known for its competitive extracurricular programs including cheerleading, volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track. Currently, more than 50% of our students participate in one or more activities. The football and softball teams are well known across the state as they consistently qualify for the state playoffs. The softball team was recognized as state champions in 2008 and state runners-up in 2017. The football team went 13-1 and were league champions in 2023.
